Πρόγραμμα EDUROM

INTERVIEW OF VOLUNTEER
Elena Papameri from Greece,

Elena is teaching Greek language, music and English and she has been a very good friend of the association since its beginning. She always keeps inspiring women to learn new things and improve their skills.

Why did you want to participate in the project?

I have been friend to this people for a long time. I have seen them struggle for simple things and always keep their spirit up. I wanted to do something meaningful and be useful to them. This program was an opportunity for me to do something structured, to teach them how to write and read, having a also specific goal in our minds, which was to acquire a school certificate.

What did you expect from this volunteering?

I was hoping to meet new people, and integrate more to Roma’s people life.  Through this process I wanted to learn more about their culture and more specifically about their language. I am a linguist myself and I am very interested to study Romane language and understand the connections with Greek language.

What would you like to know about the volunteers from the other European countries of the project?
I would like to learn about their motives. Why they wanted to be volunteers in this program and how do they feel about this experience?

Now it was my chance to participate in theses courses, take the exams and take the certificate I missed when I was a child. I need it in order to be able to participate in training seminars for adults.
